Yankees @ Rangers: Take 3

Below, as per Pete Abraham, is tonight’s lineup. Note JD is back in center for the floundering, flailing Melky who, according to Abraham, has one RBI since July 9th. That was in the second game after the break–and none in the last two and a half weeks. Yet the guy pinch-hit for Christian with Pudge due to enter last night’s game anyway. A-Rod gets a half-day off as DH while Betemit mans the hot corner on another hot night in Arlington. Joba has been placed on the 15-day DL, clearly not good news, but no word on the severity of the injury. Also, according to Abraham,

Wang will remain on crutches and in the large brace he has been wearing. But he can put a little more weight on his foot. He also picked up the customized cushioned insole to wear in his shoe.

Wang told them that he’s feeling great and there’s no pain at all. His only complaint is that his left leg is so much bigger than than the right one.

It’s Aug. 6 and he’s on crutches and hasn’t picked up a baseball since June 12. The next time you see the Wanger will be in spring training. That’s evident.

I’d concur, unfortunately. In all likelihood, no Wang, and possibly no Joba.

Speaking of which, here’s another update from Abraham on Joba, and it’s not good:

This from Brian Cashman: Chamberlain has what is being described as rotator cuff tendinitis. He will be rested for “about a week” and then start a throwing program after being evaluated again.

He will return to New York.

Just for your own reference: “tendinitis” is a nice way to say he has a little tear in his rotator cuff.

Joe Girardi said before the game he was optimistic Joba would play again this season. But a rotator cuff issue is nothing to mess around with. Don’t expect to see Chamberlain any time soon this season, if at all.

From my own web browsing, Abraham is right–this is at least a small tear. Follow what the doctors say, but my gut screams–Shut him down! Don’t F%*& with this OR Joba’s future!

  1. Joba is officially on the 15 day DL… that’s just great, aint it?

  2. Karstens went into the 8th with a perfect game going for Pittsburgh. He ended up going 9 allowing just 2 hits. He also picked up 2 hits for himself, against Randy Johnson no less. Pittsburgh wasn’t thatt stupid for the trade huh?

  3. Great point. The Yankees have too many injuries to compete this year. Get Joba healthy for next year.

  4. Agreed.

Yanks caught a break. Just a bruised right knee for Pudge after a plate collision that forced him from the game. That was scary. Could have lost him.

Moeller did clear waivers, but do we really want to go back to 3 catchers again? Sheesh.
