Melancon Seeking Spot

Yankees minor-league reliever Mark Melancon was the subject of a good, informative interview with Chad Jennings, who covers and blogs about the SWB Yankees for The Times-Union.  Melancon seems to have no shortage of confidence to complement his ability and comportment, about which pitching coordinator Nardi Contreras raved.  “He’s just a different breed when it comes to what that closer or late-inning reliever needs,” Contreras said. “What he’s got going for him, it’s not there for every pitcher.”

The excerpts are brief but a good glimpse into a guy that others and I hope gets an honest shot and impresses this Spring.  Based on the interview, that seems to be exactly what Melancon wants to occur.

  1. Good to hear Nardi raving about this kid. I can’t wait to see him pitch on a regular basis. His stuff looks nasty.

  2. Sorry I missed your comment, Rob. I’ve been very busy lately, but no excuses. You’re right about Melancon; he’s very promising and deserves a shot to show what he has. I’m looking forward to getting an eye full of him, Brackman, Albaladejo, and lots of the other younger pitchers. It’s a real testament to the depth of talented arms the Yanks have amassed.
