Yanks Opening Day Lineup

As per Marc Carig of The Star-Ledger, below is the Opening Day lineup for the New York Yankees:

Derek Jeter, SS
Johnny Damon, LF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Hideki Matsui, DH
Jorge Posada, C
Robinson Cano, 2B
Xavier Nady, RF
Cody Ransom, 3B
Brett Gardner, CF

Matsui hitting clean-up and Posada fifth are key, especially without Rodriguez.  Nady hitting seventh is good in a way because, in this lineup, that seems about right, and he gives the bottom third of the lineup some punch.  How the flip-flop of Jeter and Damon works will bear some watching, though Damon has enough patience to make hitting second work.

In the end, regardless of who hits where, it’s about situational hitting.  This team needs to drasitcally improve over last year’s squad in that department.
