Game 9: Yanks @ Rays, 4/15/09

As per Pete Abraham, below are the lineups, along with the respective histories of Pettite and Sonnanstine against their opponents.  I’ll miss most if not all of the game since my daughter has a track meet.  I’ll catch up later via the archived replay, and post a recap tonight.  My thoughts are with Evan Longoria, who will miss today’s game and tomorrow’s as well to address a family matter.  Also, Abraham says that while nothing has been announced, word is that Xavier Nady will need surgery on his elbow and miss the rest of the season.  Admittedly, it’s premature to speculate further without word from the team but, should that transpire, it would be a serious blow.  It would also mean that people should be even more thankful that the Yanks not only acquired Swisher, but didn’t listen to the hasty fans who advocated trading of one or the other this off-season.  Depth was essential, because you never know. [Edit: This just in as per Abraham and, regardless of the length of time Nady will miss, the elbow injury he sustained is serious: We just spoke to Nady. He didn’t want to say too much until he sees the team doctor in NYC tomorrow. But he indicated that the MRI showed a tear and surgery will be needed.]

Finish the road trip strong, Yanks.  Follow up well on Burnett’s great start, Lefty.  Let’s Go, Yankees!

  1. Very concerned about the Nady situation, but let’s beat the Rays and win this series. It’ll be great to head home to the Opener tomorrow with a “W.”

  2. Just getting home, it appears Nady will be out for the year. He is a FA after the year and that hurts him tremendously. We may have seen the last of him as a Yankee.

When did you ever think you would see Gardner hitting 7th?

  3. Just got in; great comeback!

Sad news about Nady. He was playing decently, and this affects the depth and, for now, quality.
