Game 85: Yankees @ Twins, 7/9/09

Below, as per Pete Abraham, is the Yanks’ lineup are the lineups. A-Rod gets a day off from the turf, with Ransom playing third.  Interesting to see Jorge catching a day game after a night game, especially with a fresh Molina back. JD is getting regular time off and, while the Yanks miss the pop in his bat when he sits, he’s a mere 4 for his last 26.  Plus, an outfield with Melky and Little G is better defensively, anyway.

Aceves fills in for Wang against Liriano and, speaking of pitchers such as Ryan who faded after Tommy John surgery, I sure wish Liriano goes on to a terrific career–after today’s game–considering his arm troubles a couple years ago.  Cut from the mold of Johan Santana, Liriano has struggled to come anywhere near the form he exhibited in 2006, when he burst on the scene going 12-3, 2.16 ERA.  Before his arm blew out, Liriano looked like an easy replacement for Santana.

The Yanks are striving to go 17 above .500 for the first time this year.  After today, it’s on to Anaheim for the last series before the All-Star break.  I’d love to see the Yanks batter the Superfluous Acronyms and roll into the break.  First things first–get the sweep today.

  1. Would love to see a sweep today before the Yanks head west to Anaheim. I know that will be a tough series, even with the Angels’ injuries, but it sure would be nice to head into the Break in first place!
