Game 114: Jays @ Yankees, 8/12/09

Below, as per Pete Abraham, is today’s Yankees lineup.  Teixeira gets a well-deserved day off, with Swish taking the first baseman’s glove.  Matsui moves into the three hole as the DH.  Posada plays a day game after a night game, making me think he might sit or DH tomorrow night in Seattle.  Interestingly, Girardi has temporarily shifted away from stacking the lineup with almost all righties, going with Hinske over Hairston, and playing JD and Matsui.  Hinske homered off Romero July 6, while the switch-hitting Swish doubled and had two walks off him that game.  JD is hitting a decent .259/.315, with 5 homers and 20 RBI in 146 plate appearances against lefties this year.  Matsui is .258/.343 against lefties this season, and has actually more HR (9) and RBI (33) in less than half the plate appearances against lefties (102) than he has against righties (.267/.373, 8 HR, 20 RBI in 255 plate appearances).  More and more it is apparent that, while Girardi understandably uses the DH to rest to some position regulars, Matsui must play against lefties as well as righties.  Give seven strong, A.J.  Get the series win, guys.  Enjoy the game, everyone.
