Game 145: Angels @ Yankees, 9/14/09

Below, as per Pete Abraham, are tonight’s lineups. Note the strength of each lineup for this make-up game, indicating its importance for both teams. As they look to move back to 41 games above .500, the Yanks stand five games ahead of the Angels for home field, four in the loss column. They both want this game. Psychologically, it has a bit more importance for the Yanks, I suggest, because they got swept in Anaheim when they last played right before the break. They also need to establish an early sense of home-field advantage. In sum, they should treat this as a playoff game, and surely the Angels will. Joba needs to be good, for the team’s sake and for his leading to October baseball. Enough of allowing a costly lapse, if not being downright awful. He needs to be strong for whatever length he goes, and to be aggressive from the get-go. Enjoy the game, everyone.

  1. Just got up to see teh last innings. By the sounds of it Girardi not having a good game Abe is moaning about the bunt so im gussing there was a silly bunt I didnt see it though. I know Gardner just scored but what is Joe playing at taking Tex out of the game in the 8th its only tie at that point. Sorry guys im abit grumpy its late im tired.

Lets hope Mo takes care of the game.

  2. Yanks lead 5-3 now ignore my little rant

  3. Quite alright, Nick. Brilliant double steal and, although it wasn’t a bad throw, the pressure forced a bad play, and they added on. It paid off.
