Game 153: Yankees @ Angels, 9/23/09

Below, as per Pete Abraham, is the Yanks’ lineup.  A-Rod rests, with Hairston taking third and hitting second.  Frankly, that’s too high in the order for my tastes.  With Brett the Jet playing center, I’d prefer that he lead off and Jeter hit second, but Girardi might want to decouple Hairston from Molina, who is in for Jorge and batting ninth.  Shelley the Marauder plays right and bats fifth against the lefty Kazmir. The playoff-bound Yanks end their road trip today and look to return to 41 games above .500.  Hopefully A.J. can put in a strong start and maintain a good head of steam heading into October.  The Yanks need it from him, and others.  Finish the road trip strong and lower that magic number, guys.  Enjoy the game, everyone.

YANKEES (96-56)

Hairston 3B

Molina C

Pitching: RHP A.J. Burnett (11-9, 4.22).

  1. Ian Kennedy for the 8th really.

2 on base in the 8th now well done Girardi.

  2. Yeah. Interesting call.

Good take on Gardner, Jason. Interesting that the last two Yankee wins are totally due to Gardner’s speed. Should the Yanks face the Angels in the ALCS, could Gardner get the nod over Melky?

  3. I was wrong but can’t blame me for being worried IPK not pitched ina long time then in the 8th inning with 1 run lead against the Angels

  4. Sorry guys. I was working on dinner and playing with my son. I didn’t know anyone was around.

I was in favor of but nervous about IPK pitching. He couldn’t be worse than Bruney, but it was a big spot to insert him. Yet he did a good job in the end, some walks aside. I think he pitched around Figgins, personally.

Mariano was great, as usual. Huge win, great work from A.J., Coke, and Marte. Although it built upon last night, today’s victory was more impressive.

  5. This series was just what the doctor ordered, thankfully! A series win in Anaheim is such a confidence boost for these guys! I’m thinking this Boston series will be a really, really good one. Go Yanks!!!

  6. Totally agree, Lisa. I think the Yanks have a good chance to clinch at home against Boston, especially if Boston loses to KC. Tremendous wins in Anaheim.
